Coffs Coast Meals On Wheels
Coffs Coast Meals on Wheels Inc is a Community based not for profit organisation that supplies meals in our local LGA. Our service is managed by a local Management Committee who overseas Meals on Wheels and their Other Food Service Program Chill Out Café and are funded under Federal Government CHSP.
We supply meals to people's homes as well as having a pickup service from our office. Meals can be delivered daily, days of choice or weekly.
Our service has been operating in Coffs Harbour for over 40 years 12 April 1972, seeing a lot of changes along the way. If you, a family member or a friend think that provision of meals and a visit from a volunteer would be of benefit your family member, neighbour or friend please contact our office.
We have a great volunteer support network of caring people in our delivery service who keep a close check on our clients and bring back any information we need.
As we always say to each and every one of the volunteers “Thanks for being the eyes and ears for our service.”
Our services is designed to:- Assist our clients to live at home independently
- Meet clients' individual needs
- Enhance clients' independence
- Reduce clients' isolation
- Assist clients to remain active members of the community
- Avoid or delay admission to residential care.
Referral and eligibility for our service
Clients may refer themselves, or a family member or medical practitioner may refer them. Eligibility for our service is determined by the Federal Government CHSP guidelines. All clients are assessed by Coffs Coast Meals On Wheels staff prior to commencement. Meals on Wheels is not means tested.
Not all our clients are elderly - the target group includes:-- Frail aged
- Younger people with disabilities
- Carers
- who are isolated
- from a Non-English speaking background
- who have dementia and / or mental health problems
- who are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
We have a social support program (centre based meals) where we bring our house bound clients into the Chill Out Cafe to eat together and socialize and are looking at other places around Coffs Harbour to go and eat.
